Charter Day, held at Bristol Cathedral, is one of the key events in the BGS calendar. It is the occasion when we celebrate King Henry VIII’s granting of the School Charter in 1532, and when the School is on show to the people of Bristol. The tradition of wearing a daffodil was established by the wife of Cyril Norwood, and the service was moved to the Cathedral in John Garrett’s time.
The date of the charter granted to Bristol Grammar School was 17 March 1532.
