George Bolt attended BGS from 2016-2022, a much loved member of the BGS community. He is mentioned three times in our Chronicle:

  • Chronicle 2020: Awarded John James Prize for Outstanding Endeavour in Year 10
  • Chronicle 2019 George Bolt the ‘wing’ of the U14 B Rugby
  • Chronicle 2018   U 13 B Boys Hockey - George Bolt team’s top scorer of the season with nine goals

When George was 14 years old he was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia, in July 2019. He underwent very intensive chemotherapy as well as receiving a bone marrow transplant. Devastatingly, whilst George was having the transplant, his younger sister Connie, who was just 12 years old, was diagnosed with a very aggressive and rare brain tumour and passed away in 2020. Sadly George also passed away in January 2022, only two years later. George's funeral was held at Westerleigh Crematorium (Waterside Chapel) on Friday 4th February 2022 at 2:45 pm.

Headmaster Jaideep Barot wrote at the time

We learned, this morning, of the passing away of George Bolt, a wonderful young man in our Lower Sixth. George passed peacefully yesterday evening, following a long illness. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him and, in particular, by his close friends, those in his year group, and those who had the pleasure of teaching him or knowing him in any other capacity. Our thoughts are with George’s parents and his family at this incredibly sad and difficult time.
