A short obituary - more details to follow.

Tony was a much-loved true gentleman and was passionate about both the Old Bristolians Society and the Sports Clubs. Writing to a student who sent him a 'World Kindness Day' card, Tony wrote the folowing.

'I was indeed at the School, starting in the Prep aged 8 in 1942 and leaving in 1952 to start my national service. I was in the yellow house, in my day known by the name of the housemaster - so Mr Dudley and Mr Osborne were my housemasters. I always enjoyed sport and joining in house plays, school plays etc. I had great regards for my teachers as well as doing loads of Greek and Latin on the Classics side, then changing to History, English etc when I was in the sixth form. I read Modern History at Oxford and then worked in Bristol until I retired. When I moved back to Bristol I had a great deal to do with the Old Bristolians War Memorial Playing Field being chairman of the ground itself for years and years. I enjoyed every minute - I just could not have found a better school.'

Whilst Tony was at BGS he played in the 1st XI for Hockey, the 2nd XI for Cricket, the VI for Fives, was awarded the Flying Scholarship in 1951 for the CCF as well as being a full prefect. Tony was described on his reports as 'should make a leader' before he left to attend Pembroke College, Oxford.
