We have recently been informed that former BGS French teacher Harmer Parr, who taught at BGS from 1972-74, has passed away.

Fellow former BGS colleague Richard Hofton remembers Harmer below.

"Inter alia, he was a star striker for the staff football team, benefiting from its principal tactic of heaving the ball in his direction. He spoke with a Lowestoft accent, which disappeared when he communicated in his perfect French. One of the visiting assistants took him for a native.  No cheating, either: there was no family background. Harmer and I were part of the 1972 staff cohort - none of the rest of us reached Harmer's legendary status."

The National Association of Language Advisers have written a lovely obituary and tribute to Harmer entitled 'A remarkable man' which you can read here

Our condolences and thoughts are with his family and friends.
