Queen’s Birthday Honours

During the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, we were delighted to see three members of our BGS community were amongst the honourees named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Chris Skidmore who attended BGS between 1992-99 was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for parliamentary and public service. Prior to this, Chris was elected as the member of Parliament for Kingswood at the 2010 general election and has held several cabinet positions including Parliamentary Secretary for the Constitution and more recently as Minister of State for Universities. Chris has also written several history books including ‘Bosworth: The Birth of the Tudors and Richard III: Brother, Protector, King.’

Sarah Crew, at BGS between 1982-89, was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal. Sarah joined Avon and Somerset Police in 1994 and took on the role of Deputy Chief Constable in 2017 before becoming Avon & Somerset’s first female Chief Constable in 2021.

Congratulations to both Sarah & Chris #bgsfamily
