OB Rachel Forbes, retired major and mum of three is preparing to run mongolian 100 challenge.
Rachel Forbes OB, will run the 100 mile Mongol challenge spending eight days traversing Lake Khovsgol.
It will take place in a remote part of east Mongolia, where temperatures can plummet to -45C, while raising cash for Walking With The Wounded, which helps vulnerable veterans find permanent employment.
She was inspired to take on a challenge that would push her to the limit after watching videos of fellow female adventurers.
Rachel has been training since November, waking up at 5.30am to go running. However, she will not be able to prepare herself for the extreme cold until she lands in Mongolia in March.
She said: “Getting out of bed during the challenge will be the hardest part.
“I have heard that from day three things get tough. The biggest challenge though will be keeping hydrated and getting enough to eat, as anything not close to your body instantly freezes. Normally you can just carry a big bladder of water, but I won’t be able to do that.”
