Message from the Old Bristolians' Society Treasurer, Nick Fitzpatrick

Dear Old Bristolian,

As you may recall we have been examining the way in which the Society is funded, and in particular how we can streamline the membership fees. As it currently stands different members pay different amounts depending on when they joined. Some pay £12.50, some £8.00 and there appear to be other arrangements with certain individuals dating a very long way back. No doubt there were good reasons for this at the time but it is very difficult to justify from today’s perspective.

We have been in discussions with the School and they have agreed to pay into the Societies Account, a two instalments of £5,000 each year in addition to the support they currently give by way of accommodation, office facilities and staffing. As a quid pro quo, the School expects the Society to drop its membership fees and looks forward to the benefits that will arise from a closer relationship between itself and its alumni.

The management committee has decided that the fees being charged for membership of the Society be reduced to nil with immediate effect. I have already spoken to the Bank and cancelled the direct debit facility, but I am not able to do the same for those of you who pay by standing order. Please can I ask you to contact your bank and cancel your order. We have been very lucky with the way some members have added a donation to their membership fee. That money was very welcome and appreciated. Thank you. I hope that you will continue with those.

I hope that this email finds you well and that you are locked down in relatively conducive circumstances.

Good luck.

Yours sincerely,

Nick Fitzpatrick
