Many of you will remember Luke & John Grenfell Shaw from your time at BGS (Class of 2012 and 2011 respectively) and many of you will already know about Luke's incredible journey over the past two years. If you didn't know, at the age of 24 Luke was diagnosed with stage IV cancer. Determined to continue to live life to the full, and in the wake of the loss of his brother John, Luke set out to live his dream cycling from Bristol to Beijing on a tandem, rewriting the narrative of what is possible with a cancer diagnosis. Joined by other CanLivers* and with the support of his team, Luke has faced many obstacles not in small part owing to the pandemic, but he has picked himself up time and time again saying
'Something I’ve learned the hard way is just to enjoy today,’ he says. ‘Let the future take care of itself.’

Luke has now cycled across 29 countries, covering 30,000km on his trusty tandem bike nicknamed Chris and now he wants to invite you all to join him on Sunday 19 June from 13:45-17:00 to see him cross the finish line, hear about his journey and welcome him back home. Read more about Luke's story here on his website - https://www.bristol2beijing.org/lukes-story
Tickets are available to purchase on Eventbrite at £5 per person raising money for Luke's selected charities and include refreshments & entertainment.
We hope to see many of you back at BGS to support Luke, just as when he departed on New Years Day 2020 from the Graveney Room (pictured outside the Sports Hall).
