We are delighted to share the news that our Headmaster, Jaideep Barot, has been elected Chair of HMC for the 2024/25 academic year. HMC is a professional association of Heads of many of the UK’s leading independent schools and Jaideep's election to this prestigious role will mean that Bristol Grammar School can play a bigger role in national conversations around education and the wellbeing of children and young people, at a time when the sector is facing a number of challenges.

HMC represents the Heads of more than 300 leading independent schools in the UK and Ireland, as well as almost 50 more around the world. Between them, HMC schools are responsible for educating over 270,000 young people. HMC is a member-led organisation that advocates for better education policy and good practice, provides training, induction and professional development for Heads and staff of HMC schools, and provides a quality ‘kite mark’ for independent education.

As such, Jaideep’s election as Chair is a positive reflection on both Bristol Grammar School and the whole BGS community of pupils, staff, parents, guardians and alumni, and their continuing support for the school. This will be only the second time since the foundation of HMC (in 1869) that this role has been held by the Headmaster of BGS – the first being when John Mackay was Chair in 1970 – and we congratulate Jaideep on his election.
