We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Tristan Parris as Director of Sport from the start of the next academic year. His appointment sees him returning to the school and the city where he started his coaching career while at the University of Bristol 24 years ago.
Mr Parris will be joining us from St Paul’s School, London. Previous to his role at St Paul’s, Mr Parris taught for 10 years at Millfield School where he was Assistant Director of Sport as well as director of the fencing and modern pentathlon programmes, roles he combined with serving as President of England Fencing. He has also coached, and will be coaching, a wide range of team sports, and has, at his core, a firm conviction about the formative role of sport in education in shaping a lifelong love of sport and exercise.
Prior to teaching, Mr Parris enjoyed a career as an elite coach and coach developer at international level, in the disciplines of fencing and modern pentathlon, and coached athletes to impressive performances at Olympic Games. He will take up the position of Director of Sport as BGS at an exciting time in our strategic development, as we begin looking into significant further investment in our facilities. Mr Parris’s aim is
“to create a system of sport and activity which has well-being and long-term development at its heart, whilst providing avenues for excellence to develop amongst both staff and students”
