Lord Justice Singh (Old Bristolian 1981) Visits BGS

Last Thursday 23 March, we were delighted to welcome Old Bristolian and friend, Lord Justice Singh, to visit BGS. Sir Rabinder attended BGS from 1972-81 and was a prefect as well as one of the brightest scholars of his generation. Following BGS he gained a double first in Law from Cambridge, later becoming a Harkness Fellow at the University of California at Berkeley, before becoming a lecturer at the University of Nottingham; and a barrister (a founding member of Matrix Chambers). He was a celebrated judge and is now a highly respected Lord Justice of Appeal, one of only 37 in the country; and President of the Investigatory Powers Tribunal.

Sir Rabinder attended with students from the University of Bristol Bar Society (of which he is their Patron this year), to meet with our Headmaster and Heads of School before hosting a Q&A with our Law Society in the Mackay Theatre. He delivered an enlightened and engaging discussion, answering questions on diplomatic immunity, migration, and human rights. At school he was a talented classicist and remains a passionate advocate for increasing knowledge of classical studies for children from all backgrounds. As a special surprise, we arranged for his two former History and Classics teachers, David Miller, and Philip Revill to be in attendance.

Sir Rabinder is also one of our leading Patrons of the 500 Campaign and supports our Mission to widen access for all bright and able children to BGS regardless of background and financial means.
