This has been a long time coming.
On 19th June, 2018, I was diagnosed with cancer.
Very rare, very aggressive. I had a tumour the size of an aubergine beneath my left scapula and devastatingly, many cancerous nodules riddling my lungs.
At that point, seeing Christmas was very unlikely, but I made the decision to make the most of each passing day. I couldn't control when I went, but I can control how I spend each day. I made the decision to do my best to live as fully as possible - maximising the richness and fulfillment I got from life. This only becomes more important if you have little time.
In short, I became a CanLiver. A CanLiver is someone living with cancer: facing the uncertainty and challenge of cancer on a daily basis, yet acknowledging we can live with cancer - richly and fully.
I didn't expect to be here, 16 months on exactly, but I'm thrilled to be embarking on my next stage.
Starting January 1st 2020 I will begin the biggest expedition of my life: Bristol to Beijing, by tandem. 23,000km of mountains, deserts, plains and bone-shaking roads. One year on the road. Along the way, I will visit cancer centres for young people to meet them, hear their stories and give them the opportunity to ride with me on the tandem.
On the back seat, I will be joined by other CanLivers, and friends, to share precious experiences together.
I will be raising money for 4 charities helping young people with cancer: 5KYourWay, Trekstock, CLIC Sargent and Teenage Cancer Trust.
Why am I telling you this? To make some noise, to create a fuss. To get you involved. Please share this and like my page https://www.facebook.com/Bristol2B/, please help the charities we're supporting here
And please join me!
Think how to maximise your own life and how to make the most of simply today.
